Community Assembly of Forest Vegetation along Compound Habitat Gradients across Different Climatic Regions in China

چکیده
Community assembly research has mostly focused on areas with single vegetation types; however, the abiotic and biotic factors affecting community act across regions. Integrating into “compound” habitats gained attention as an emerging strategy to analyze spatial temporal patterns of biodiversity. We used a compound habitat approach explore relative roles filtering, competition, stochastic processes in forest four climatic zones (tropical, subtropical, temperate, cold temperate forests). Specifically, we combined ecological gradients by principal component analysis (PCA), which assess geographic phylogenetic distribution multiple woody plant functional traits. found that diversity shifted from clustered overdispersed along first gradient (PC1) climate zones. This finding indicates competitive exclusion strongly affected tropical subtropical forests, while filtering played key role forests; these mechanisms may both exist interact forests. also competition regions China. Our results elucidate underlying driving geographical differentiation zones, bolster empirical evidence for conservation biodiversity Further is needed whether this paper are prevalent different locations

Vegetation‐infiltration relationships across climatic and soil type gradients
[1] The enhancement of infiltration capacity in the presence of vegetation is well documented in arid ecosystems where it can significantly impact the water balance and vegetation spatial organization. To begin progress toward developing a theory of vegetation‐infiltration interactions across a wide spectrum of climate regimes, three key questions are addressed: (1) Does vegetation also enhance...
متن کاملVEGETATION PATTERN ALONG ENVIRONMENTAL GRADIENTS: CONTINUUM OR COMMUNITY The concept of vegetation continuum and changing species composition along environmental gradients emerged as an antithesis of plant community
This paper presents a short review of gradient analysis basic theory, approaches and application. Contradictory viewpoints of vegetation organization along the environmental gradients are discussed. Different environmental gradients influencing plant species are considered. These are complex environmental gradients, resource gradients and direct gradients. Two approaches of gradient analysis ar...
متن کاملCommunity Structure of Skipper Butterflies (Lepidoptera, Hesperiidae) along Elevational Gradients in Brazilian Atlantic Forest Reflects Vegetation Type Rather than Altitude
Species turnover across elevational gradients has matured into an important paradigm of community ecology. Here, we tested whether ecological and phylogenetic structure of skipper butterfly assemblages is more strongly structured according to altitude or vegetation type along three elevation gradients of moderate extent in Serra do Mar, Southern Brazil. Skippers were surveyed along three differ...
متن کاملHabitat Fragmentation Drives Plant Community Assembly Processes across Life Stages
Habitat fragmentation is one of the principal causes of biodiversity loss and hence understanding its impacts on community assembly and disassembly is an important topic in ecology. We studied the relationships between fragmentation and community assembly processes in the land-bridge island system of Thousand Island Lake in East China. We focused on the changes in species diversity and phylogen...
متن کاملVegetation composition and structure of forest patches along urban - rural gradients
The urban landscape is highly altered by human activities and is a mosaic of different land covers and land uses. Imbedded in this are forest patches of different origins (Zipperer et al .• 1997). How these patches influence and are influenced by the urban landscape is of ecological importance when managing the urban forest for ecosystem goods and services. To evaluate how forests respond to al...
